2025 Taiwan Lantern Festival Main Lantern "Infinite Paradise" and Mini Lantern "Slithering Snake" Make Their Debut Today!
Minister Shih-kai Chen of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications announced that the Taiwan Lantern Festival, now in its 36th edition, will feature the main lantern, "Infinite Paradise," designed and created by renowned artist Akibo Lee. The design incorporates modern abstract infinity symbols, spheres, and geometric shapes to create a futuristic theme park atmosphere inspired by amusement park rides like roller coasters and water slides. The festival aims to offer international visitors a taste of what has been hailed by the media as “Disneyland without roller coasters." The main lantern, standing 18 meters high, will use cutting-edge technologies such as AI and motion capture, offering a dynamic and ever-changing visual experience that conveys themes of sustainable development and intergenerational connectivity.
During the introduction of the main lantern design, Akibo Lee mentioned that the lantern's theme coincided with Team Taiwan's victory in the Premier12 Baseball Tournament, where they won the gold cup. Four professional cheerleaders were invited to control dynamic images of the main lantern show using motion capture technology. The event also featured Minister Shih-kai Chen and Mayor Simon Chang of Taoyuan, who participated in painting peach-themed facial expressions. Additionally, several foreign exchange students wrote their blessings for Taiwan in their native languages, capturing the passion and energy of many collaborative creators, symbolizing Taiwan's infinite possibilities.
Additionally, Director-General Chou Yung-hui of the Tourism Administration shared that this year’s mini lanterns, a favorite among children, are themed around the Zodiac Snake. The design, called "The Playful Snake," features a flexible seven-segment movable structure, allowing each segment to bend 90 degrees. The snake can be assembled into various shapes or numbers from 0 to 9 according to personal preferences. Since the snake ranks 6th in the Zodiac, the name "Slithering Snake" was chosen, also encouraging everyone to get outdoors and explore, adding a playful twist. Furthermore, half of the mini lanterns are designed to light up with an external rechargeable power bank, allowing users to simply connect their own power bank with a TYPE-C cable, reducing battery usage and promoting sustainability.
The 2025 Taiwan Lantern Festival will officially open on February 12, 2025 (Wednesday) at 7:00 PM, with the main lantern performing a light show every half hour. The event will run until February 23, 2025 (Sunday) at 10:00 PM.
